Napatak Ramble attracts nearly 400 live music fans

Close to 400 fans of live music attended the Napatak Ramble held Aug. 21 at Potato Lake.

“We had a lot of people buying tickets at the last minute,” Artistic Director Colin Jolly said. “It was a little smaller. We probably sold 50 tickets less than what we usually do. Given the times with COVID and the change of venues, I think that added to it.”

The event began with an arts market with about 12 vendors and a Kids Camp during the day. A food truck was also on location and the live music began in the evening.

Bands that performed included Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Eliza Mary Doyle, Metis Fiddle Music, Funky Bus, Dara Schindelka, Poe Lacey, It’s Just Andrea, Northern Creek, Lightning Creek, As Above So Below, Grasshopper Pie, Stargaze and Aaron Bell.

“This year went off without a hitch. It was fantastic,” Jolly said. “Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”

The 2021 Napatak Ramble also marked the first time it was held at Potato Lake. Jolly explained doing so involved extra work, but volunteers were available to prepare the land and set up the stage.

He mentioned there were initially some concerns from neighbours about holding the festival in a residential area.

“Everything was just so positive that anything the neighbours would have been worried about, I think we put those worries to rest,” Jolly said. “Our track record speaks for itself. We never have any issues, it’s always been a positive, family event.”

The 2022 Napatak Ramble will mark 10 years for the event and Jolly said it will be the biggest and best one yet. He added that could involve some surprises over the next 12 months to get ready for it.
