Garbage collection changing in Air Ronge
Residential garbage pick up in Air Ronge could be permanently switched to once per week starting Nov. 13.
That’s according to Mayor Gordon Stomp who said it was the second year in a row the village reduced garbage collection in the colder months to save time and have workers do other tasks. Starting next week, garbage will be picked up on Tuesdays but no longer Fridays.
“A lot of times they go and check the garbage cans right now and there’s nothing in them,” Stomp said. “We figure we’ll be OK for once a week. Maybe at Christmas and Boxing Day, we’re looking at doing a little bit more there.”
With a new garbage truck with a mechanical arm lift expected to arrive in the spring of 2019, Stomp wasn’t sure if collection dates would return to twice per week. He noted there’s been discussion to potentially keep it at one day only, adding there will be a whole new process when the truck arrives. Stomp stated, however, he personally wants to resume garbage collection twice per week in the warmer months, but can’t guarantee that will happen.
