Indigenous Services Minister coming to La Ronge for wellness centre announcement

Feb 13, 2019 | 1:50 PM

Residents are invited to a special announcement Thursday by Minister of Indigenous Services Seamus O’Regan in support of the construction of a health and wellness facility.

According to a media advisory, it will occur at 11 a.m. at the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre. Chief Tammy Cook-Searson expects Rural and Remote Health Minister Greg Ottenbreit and Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Chief Bobby Cameron to also be there. Back in October, she told larongeNOW she was hopeful the Liberals would provide $15.45 million to construct a 10-bed facility with in-patient and out-patient care, as well as a swimming pool. She stated the band has already saved $2 million for the project and expects the provincial government to assist with another $2.5 million.

Cook-Searson said the announcement will advance the ability to care for northern communities and families.
