Air Ronge council finalizing details of $100,000 contract for Heritage Park

Dec 18, 2019 | 5:00 PM

Air Ronge councillors will be entering into final negotiations with La Ronge-based Little Rock Enterprises Inc. for a landscaping contract worth $100,000.

The decision was made at a regular village council meeting Tuesday, where councillors examined three proposal from companies bidding to do the work in Heritage Park. Council considered aspects such as cost, timeline, delivery and installation, as well as ensuring specific goals were met in making their decision. In the end, the proposal from Little Rock Enterprises was approximately $100,000 lower than the others.

“We were happy with all the submissions, but Little Rock seemed to come in at a better price and it pushed them ahead of the others,” said Assistant Administrator Gavin Willins. “As far as the breakdown goes, that’s certainly where they pulled ahead.”

The contract will cover the groundwork at Heritage Park, which will include landscaping, drainage and gates for public access. The current loop for vehicles will also be eliminated, Willins said, and there will be an addition of a new parking lot. Council hopes closing off more of the park to traffic will increase the safety of children playing in the area.

Council also has other plans for the Heritage Park not included in the contract such as the addition of benches, a gazebo and other amenities. Those additions will come after the completion of the groundwork.

“As far as moving on with that, that might be something we may be able to handle on our own,” Willins said. “The large-scale landscaping just isn’t within our capacity to deal with.”
