Sandy Bay, Pinehouse changing levels, public notice issued in Buffalo Narrows about COVID cases

Jan 27, 2021 | 4:33 PM

The Northern Lights School Division continues to change the level of learning at its facilities based on active COVID-19 cases.

This week it was announced students at Sandy Bay’s Hector Thiboutot Community School would be placed on level four mandatory remote learning until at least Feb. 1.

Meanwhile, students at Pinehouse Lake’s Minahik Waskahigan High School and Minahik Waskahigan Elementary School will be lowered to level three as of Feb. 1. That means moving from mandatory, remote learning to reduced in-class learning.

“We wanted to make your aware that we are experiencing increased COVID-19 activity in northern Saskatchewan,” a letter by the school division states. “We are asking everyone to be extra vigilant. Protect yourself and your family at all times during the pandemic by following all public health recommendations and ensuring you do your part to stop the spread.”

A letter was also sent out this week about two individuals who tested positive at Twin Lakes Community School in Buffalo Narrows. The affected classrooms will remain closed for two weeks, reopening Feb. 8.

So far, public health has completed the initial part of the case and contact investigation. If parents don’t hear from them, it means their child has not been assessed to be a close contact.

It’s unknown when other schools in the division will change levels as it’s done with the advice of public health authorities. Find out what level other local schools are at here.
