Lac La Ronge Winter Festival hands out $50K in prizes

Mar 13, 2024 | 1:18 PM

With the Lac La Ronge Winter Festival now concluded, organizer Kevin Roberts explained approximately $50,000 was awarded in cash and prizes.

“I think overall we had another great event. We had some good attendance and good participation of teams in our various events. Overall, we are quite pleased with the festival,” he said.

“We budget for that because it is our biggest and main event of the year. We want to ensure that we reach a level we need to keep it going. That’s where we budget for it, and we have a couple of big sponsors who come through every year who help us with it.”

Some of the winners of the Lac La Ronge Winter Festival include Richard Charles and Clarissa Burns, the winners of the Tracker Tom Charles Memorial Trapper Competition (both won $1,500), as well as Owen Roberts and GeAnne Roberts, winners of the Tracker Tom Charles Memorial Junior Trapper Competition (both won $300).

Sonny Montilla and Jeremy Morin split $4,000 as winners of the Texas Hold’em Tournament and the Stanley Mission Riverhawks won $5,000 as the winners of the 12th annual Jimmy Roberts Memorial Hockey Tournament. Underground Performance won $2,000 in the Masters Division of that same tournament.

Rise Up were the winners of the 11th annual Chrissy Charles Memorial Volleyball Tournament and won $2,500. Aynslee Baschuk was the winner of the Youth Talent Show and first place winners in the Community Buckskin Contest were Jude McLeod (Kids), Neil Cook-Roberts (Youth) and Sylvia Charles (Adult).

Bristol Cross was the winner of the Baby Pageant, having sold 160 books of tickets, while Rayshell Charles won the Queen Pageant, having sold 79 books of tickets. Each of those winners collected 30 per cent of their ticket sales.

“We want to thank all of our volunteers, our event coordinators and especially our sponsors,” Roberts noted.

“They help in making this event possible. A lot of times our name is attached to it, but we got some good people who come out and help us, so we really appreciate them for that.”

For those interested, the Stanley Mission Winter Festival is occurring this week.
