Peanut Productions brings Christmas in April with new play

Apr 12, 2024 | 3:38 PM

Peanut Productions has a new comedic play ready for local audiences called Christmas Belles.

The play takes place in the small town of Fayro, Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters are not exactly in a festive mood. A church Christmas program spins hilariously out of control, but in true Futrelle fashion, they find a way to pull it together for a Christmas Fayro will never forget.

“Every year in our past 31 years, we pick the play in August or September, then we begin our auditions for the different parts in late September or early October,” explained director Glenys Plunz.

“We begin our actual practices in November, we stop for Christmas and then come January we go non-stop until we move into the Elks Hall three weeks before the opening night.”

The play stars local actors including Jan Senik, Terry Desroches, Angela Plunz, Melanie Potts, Brent Angus, Cheryl Norgaard, Lisa Oscienny, Shelby Savoie, Heidi Merriman, Luke Sampson and Henry Goertzen. Merriman, Sampson and Goertzen will all be making their debut performances with Peanut Productions.

Christmas Belles will be performed April 17-20 at the Elks Hall in Air Ronge. Wednesday and Thursday are rush seating tickets, which can be purchased from SGI or the Lac La Ronge Visitors Centre.

Friday and Saturday tickets are reserved seat and the Elks Club will provide a cash bar. There are limited tickets left for Friday and Saturday and the public should contact a cast member or Plunz at peanutslaronge@gmail.com if interested.

“In past years, we have had last-minute circumstances where someone has purchased a ticket and they can’t come, so it is always worthwhile to check and see if there are any tickets hanging out there for sale at the last minute,” she said.

All profits generated by Peanut Productions are donated to local non-profit organizations.
