JRMCC launches Fastball Academy
A new program being launched by the Lac La Ronge Indian Band will prepare youngsters for a sport already well-established in Saskatchewan.
The Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre (JRMCC) Fastball Academy is expected to start programming in the coming months to teach children between the ages of seven to 12 about the rules and skills associated with the game.
The initiative comes after Team Woodland didn’t place well in fastball during the Tony Cote Summer Games, with only the U13 boys and girls teams finishing in third place.
“It’s a core sport as part of the Tony Cote Summer Games, so we want to give our athletes … a better chance to medal at those games,” said JRMCC Director of Sports and Recreation Kevin Roberts.
