Francophone families throughout Saskatchewan are getting a boost of support from the province’s municipalities.

During its annual convention in Regina, the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) announced a partnership with the Assemblée Communautaire Fransaskoise (ACF). The partnership helps engage SUMA members and lend support when they seek Government Francophone-related funding.

“SUMA has long believed in the spirit of collaboration to build strong innovative urban municipalities,” said President Randy Goulden.

“This new partnership with the ACF will help strengthen ties to our French-speaking communities across the province while also lending help and support to our members in terms of funding opportunities. We can’t wait to get started.”

The ACF, which has an office in Prince Albert, will help SUMA member communities apply for government Francophone-related opportunities through statements of support to the government.

“The ACF is delighted to contribute in any way possible to the strengthening of our municipalities, this new collaboration with SUMA will certainly open enriching opportunities to which many Saskatchewan municipalities will now have access,” said President of the ACF Denis Simard.

The ACF is a francophone advocacy group which works to provide opportunities where the French language can thrive in Saskatchewan.

The new partnership is a three-year agreement and at the end of those three years, both organizations will have the chance to revisit the agreement and continue.

“Historically education has been the cornerstone of our mandate, but today we are encouraged by the prospect of collaborating on the municipal level to accentuate the French fact in Saskatchewan and contribute to the development of our communities,” added Simard.
