HROMEK RESIGNS

Jon Hromek steps down as Sask. United Party Leader

Dec 31, 2024 | 2:09 PM

Jon Hromek, the leader of the Saskatchewan United Party, announced his resignation and decided to step away from the party after they failed to win any seat in the October provincial election.

According to the email statement the party sent out on New Year’s Eve morning, Hromek said the decision “was not made lightly.”

“Your voices, your stories, and your hopes for our province have inspired me deeply. It has been an honour to stand alongside you in the fight for a better Saskatchewan,” Hromek said.

He went on to note that the province is “at a crossroads” due to the new leadership in the United States and “chaos” in Ottawa.

“The decisions made in the coming years will shape not only our province but our place in the nation. It’s essential that we have leaders who prioritize the needs of Saskatchewan citizens and who are committed to fostering growth, prosperity, and resilience.”

In the release, he also reflected on the moment during the campaign trial in October, saying they faced a challenging election.

“While we did not win any seats, placing third in the province overall reflects a growing desire for change among the people of Saskatchewan,” he noted. “Throughout this campaign, I heard you loud and clear. You care about the future of Saskatchewan.”

As he steps down from his leadership role, he wants to emphasize the province’s future “is in the hands of the people.”

“This is not the end. It is merely a new beginning. I am hopeful because I believe in the power of the Saskatchewan spirit. I believe in our ability to innovate, collaborate, and rise to any challenge. Together, we can build a province that reflects our values and aspirations,” he stated.

“Let us continue to fight for the Saskatchewan we know is possible — a province of growth, prosperity, and opportunity. Thank you.”

Lastly, party president Dwight Bunyan expressed gratitude to Hromek for his dedication and contributions.

“His leadership and vision will have a lasting impact on this party and the province,” said Bunyan.

The party’s successor was not named in the statement.
