Fire ban declared in tri-communities

Jul 14, 2026 | 3:58 PM

The La Ronge Regional Fire Department has issued a fire ban effective immediately.

The ban was issued on Tuesday at approximately 3 p.m. with support from tri-community leadership, as well as the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.

While the ban covers open fires, traditional smokers, propane barbecues, propane-fueled fire pits and briquettes are permitted.

“This ban has been issued to control the risk of urban wildfire within the tri-communities,” the notice states.

“This is due to the current extreme heat, extreme fire index rating, and no precipitation forecasted in the near future. A fire or ember from your open fire can catch nearby bushes/trees on fire and can quickly overwhelm the fire department’s resources.”

The upcoming forecast from Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling for highs around 29 C until Sunday, with a 60 per cent chance of showers over the weekend.

Data recently released by Environment Canada shows La Ronge experience its second driest June of record with only five millimeters of rain falling so far in July.
