Compensation increased for town council
La Ronge council has amended its Compensation Policy to better reflect what they take home after taxes.
In specific, council has increased the amount they are paid to attend board and committee meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, and events. Compensation will increase from $80 per half day (up to four hours) to $105 per half day, and $160 per day (more than four hours) to $210 per day retroactive to Jan. 1, 2026.
It is the first time those rates have been adjusted since at least 2019.
“The reason we did that is just in consideration of the taxation requirements and it was just adjusted for the specific reason. Just taking into consideration how much the honourarium would be after taxes and stuff and it looked like it was just a better rate for that,” said La Ronge Chief Financial Officer Trevor Putz. “Any new honourariums that they have, these new rates will apply to that. Any of those honourariums, just for tax purposes, they weren’t getting the full $80, so this is a way to compensate them for the taxation part of it.”
