Town resumes control of highway sign corridor

Aug 18, 2026 | 1:16 PM

The Town of La Ronge will assume control of the sign corridor along Highway 2 following the dissolution of the local Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber had been involved in two services which directly impact the municipality, including the installation of billboard signs in that area and the seasonal lighting on power poles.

While the seasonal decorative lights were given to businessman Matt Klassen – who has been willing to coordinate the seasonal installation, removal, and storage of the lights – a lease agreement between the Chamber and town council for the sign corridor was terminated. and the municipality has resumed administration of it.

“I think it is good to have it and I actually like the idea of the town maintaining the area,” said Coun. Melissa McNeil.

“You see it when you drive in, and having as many businesses that can be on there, it shows the community [is] thriving and continuing to grow.”

The sign structures in the corridor were built and paid for by the individual advertisers. The Chamber had not sent out invoices for 2026, but administration has recently done so. It currently costs advertisers $250 per year to have a sign erected in the corridor.

At the moment, there are 13 signs in the corridor, including one for the Chamber of Commerce.

“From an economic development perspective, this is a smart move to start going on this and maybe offer half signs or smaller signs for smaller businesses in town to be able to promote some of those things [like] direction arrows and that kind of stuff,” said Coun. Abby Besharah.
