Severe thunderstorms in the forecast for northern Saskatchewan

Aug 24, 2026 | 5:25 PM

All eyes will be on the skies in the La Ronge area, as dangerous thunderstorms could develop this evening.

As of 5 p.m Monday, Environment Canada had an orange alert issued for an area in northern Saskatchewan that covered Prince Albert National Park to north of La Loche and every community in between east to west.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing torrential rain,” the alert read.

Slow moving thunderstorms that started earlier in the day are expected to persist well into the night. Environment Canada said fast-moving and rapidly rising water can sweep vehicles away and damage infrastructure.
