Lakeside Spirits to stop ordering American liquor
The largest liquor retailer in La Ronge has announced it is removing American products from its shelves.
The move comes during an escalating trade war between Canada and the United States. Discussions between the two countries for a new trade deal fell apart last month, and soon after the United States implemented more tariffs on a wide range of everyday products.
In response, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe announced a 50 per cent tariff on American alcohol and earlier this week President Donald Trump announced an outright ban on most Canadian alcohol coming into the United States.
“It’s pretty much a store-by-store basis. So, some stores feel like they still want to support it and they can still buy it and increase their prices… but just our store personally, we just don’t feel like we need to do it because there is plenty of stuff we can substitute,” explained Lakeside Spirits Manager Tara Simon.
