New playground structures installed at local elementary schools

Students at La Ronge’s Pre-Cam Community School and Air Ronge’s Gordon Denny Community School have new playground equipment to enjoy.

Both elementary schools were busy throughout 2026 with various fundraising projects to make the new equipment a reality. Pre-Cam has already fundraised $125,000 of a $150,000 goal and Gordon Denny has raised $96,000 out of $108,000. The new playground equipment was installed at the schools earlier this month.

“We just had one small section of a playground structure and it was practically coming out of the ground,” explained Gordon Denny Principal Tammy Robinson.

“It had sharp edges on it, so we were worried about the safety of the kids, so that structure had to go and we had to try and replace it as soon as we could. The kids like the durability of it and it is much bigger than the last one.”

Pre-Cam Principal Ryan Kuppenbender said even though the school still owes money for the project, they wanted to bring it to the kids as soon as they were able to.

“The fundraising is still going on, but we are close,” he said.

“Students are just vibrating to get on there, so we’re excited to let them play.”

While some of the funding for the playground equipment was made possible through local donations and fundraisers, some also came from the provincial government’s School Playground Equipment Grant program.
