Three men facing firearms charges after traffic stop near La Ronge

Nov 3, 2026 | 5:05 PM

La Ronge RCMP have charged three men with multiple offences following a traffic stop south of La Ronge on Highway 2.

On Oct. 26 at approximately 9:50 p.m., conservation officers conducted a traffic stop on the highway and observed firearm parts inside the vehicle allegedly in plain view. They also determined the vehicle was previously reported as stolen from the La Ronge area.

Two men were arrested at the scene, while the third fled on foot into a nearby treed area. The conservation officers requested that RCMP assist with the investigation.

A police dog tracked the man through the trees, while officers used a remotely piloted aircraft system to conduct aerial searches of the area. The man was soon located and arrested.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, La Ronge RCMP located and seized a firearm, several firearm parts, a machete, and soft body armour.

As a result, 49-year-old Travis Roberts, 40-year-old Allan Sanderson, and 37-year-old David McKenzie, all from the La Ronge area, are each charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Each man is also facing additional firearms-related charges, with Roberts also charged with resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

All three men appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court last month.
