Fifty years of township: Living on the edge of paradise
With it being 50 years since La Ronge was granted town status by the provincial government on Nov. 1, 1976, larongeNOW is looking back at what the community once was and what it is today. From a fishing town, administrative centre, to one with a more diversified economy, larongeNOW talked to some of the movers and shakers about the past, present and what the future might hold. This is the third part of a three-part series.
In this final installment, larongeNOW invited local residents to share their thoughts on the community and more than three dozen people responded. In specific, we asked: if you could describe La Ronge in a word, two words or a short sentence – what does La Ronge mean to you? Why do we live here? Why do we call La Ronge home?
“La Ronge is unmatched in beauty and serenity like any other place I’ve ever been. There are nights when the lake is perfect glass and every shine off of it is glitter from the stars is in the sky. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,” replied one reader.
“Every blessing bestowed upon me during my adult years……marriage, family, career and friends, came as a result of making La Ronge my home many years ago…..truly thankful in so many ways,” said another.
