Ice Wolves captain traded to Melville Millionaires

La Ronge Ice Wolves Captain Zane Normand has been traded to the Melville Millionaires.

In exchange for Normand, who has been with the Ice Wolves since the 2023-2024 season, the team is receiving a fourth round pick in the 2026 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Draft, a player development fee, as well as Defenceman Carter Turchak and prospect Carter Wingert.

“I want to wish [Zane Normand] all the best. He’s been a great fixture in our community,” Ice Wolves Head Coach Kevin Kaminski remarked.

“He wore the Ice Wolves jersey with pride. He’s done everything as a player, person, captain to perform at his highest. There’s nothing but great things. It’s about having that opportunity to play in playoffs if Melville gets there.”

Kaminski believes the trade is beneficial for both teams, explaining the Millionaires were in need of a forward, and the Ice Wolves are receiving a good package deal in return.

“We’re going young. We got a 2007-defenceman who is a little bit more on the defensive side, but he’s strong, big, keeps the game simple, and he has a great attitude and he’s excited to come to La Ronge,” Kaminski noted.

“I think both parties are happy and it is good for our future coming up.”

During his time with the Ice Wolves, Normand earned 18 goals and 23 assists for a total of 41 points in 97 games. In addition, he racked up 181 penalty minutes.

Normand was named captain of the team in September 2025, which he said was a great honour.

“It was pretty stressful because you want your team to do good under you and, when you are struggling a little bit, some of that is placed on you as a leader, but I think the boys were very accepting with what me and Kevin Kaminski had to say to them,” he said.

“I’d just love to thank the entire Town of La Ronge for all the support I have gotten throughout the years. It’s been wonderful.”
