Grant request, lease agreement among items for Monday council meeting

Feb 23, 2026 | 4:37 PM

It will be a rather short regular council meeting this evening in La Ronge.

The meeting will start with a delegation from the STREAM Foundation, an Indigenous-owned Saskatchewan non-profit. Representatives from the group will go over its mission, project description, and discuss how the initiative can benefit residents of La Ronge.

Information submitted before the meeting show the STREAM Foundation can assist in the town’s crime reduction goals. It notes the group can connect those with untreated addictions to treatment, coordinate transportation, secure income assistance, and support follow-up mental health care and stabilized housing.

The outcomes of the project include reduced criminal activity, fewer RCMP interactions, improved individual stability and strengthened community safety.

In addition, town council will consider a grant request application from Peanut Productions for $4,000 to help offset the majority of production costs. The applicant has indicated they have pledged $12,000 towards the long-term care fundraising initiative, and offsetting production costs will maximize their contribution.

Peanut Productions will perform their next play April 22 to 25. It is called Dearly Departed by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones.

Finally, town council will discuss leasing space at the Mel Hegland Uniplex to La Ronge Minor Hockey and the La Ronge Skating Club. The spaces include metal, grated lockers in the main hallway, an equipment storage closet, and a changeroom with a single toilet and two sinks.

In addition, La Ronge’s Pre-Cam Community School wishes to construct and install a storage rack somewhere around the ice rink to hold skates.
