LLRIB dancers return from intensive workshop in Toronto
Three members of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band are feeling rejuvenated after a three-day ultimate intensive dance workshop with Toronto’s Yasmina Ramzy.
Barbara Cardin-Clinton of La Ronge, Katelynn McKenzie from Hall Lake, and Christen Ross who now lives in Calgary, met up in Toronto last week for the comprehensive class. Ramzy specializes in raqs sharqi (commonly known as belly dance) and she is a well-known teacher, choreographer and director.
“We got to learn musical expression, we got some teacher training, live tabla, qanun, and nay (musical instruments), which are all from Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries,” Cardin-Clinton said.
“We got a lot of performance feedback, technique drills, creativity and artistry, and we did quite a bit of choreography.”
