Rise Air, La Ronge EMS celebrate 30 years of medivac services
Thirty years of delivering essential medical care transportation was celebrated Wednesday at the La Ronge Airport.
The event, which included an impressive list of dignitaries, marked the 30th year of a partnership between Rise Air and La Ronge EMS to provide medivac services to residents throughout Northern Saskatchewan. The day included a special ceremony with speeches, a barbecue, as well as a $42,000 donation from Rise Air and Athabasca Basin Development to the La Ronge and Area Long-Term Care Fundraising Committee.
According to Rise Air CEO Derek Nice, the airline has had airplanes on standby 24 hours per day for the last three decades without any disruptions.
“We had the planes available, we’ve had the pilots, we’ve had the medical teams, we’ve had the backup from the maintenance crews who at times have had to work through the night to keep these planes ready to go, and we’ve had dispatchers sitting beside the phone waiting to answer a call for a total of 262,800 hours – not once has that phone not been answered,” he explained.
