New Restrictions

La Ronge town office closed to public, other restrictions in place

The Town of La Ronge has enacted restrictions with the hopes of stopping the spread of COVID-19.

The changes were revealed at a regular council meeting Wednesday when a press release was given to those in attendance. It states the town’s senior management team has been working closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and, at this time, council believes the town is operationally prepared to respond to the developing situation.

“The town is taking all necessary measures within our control to reasonably ensure that proper safety precautions are followed to help contain the virus and reduce the impact a pandemic could have on our existing health care facilities,” the release states.

The Town of La Ronge has implemented the following measures effective immediately including all town-initiated recreational programming has been suspended until further notice, enhanced COVID-19 security measures are in place at the air carriers and Nav Canada at Barber Field Airport. Public access to the Mel Hegland Uniplex, public works shop and fire station are suspended until further notice, and all fire inspections and re-inspections are suspended until further notice.

The Town of La Ronge office has also been closed to the public, but administration can be reached by either phone or email. Also, the Mel Hegland Uniplex, curling areas and town office have been sanitized and will continue being sanitized as required, signage will be placed at public buildings reminding individuals to follow proper hand washing procedures, encouraging employees to stay home if they are unwell and not to attend work until they are symptom free, and firefighters are taking protective measures when assisting individuals in emergency situations.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to conduct business with the town by either phone or email, support and adhere to directives provided by the Saskatchewan Healthy Authority, make payments to the town using electronic methods, and do not visit any municipal facilities if you are sick.

“At this time, our goal is to provide municipal services in the least disruptive manner to best serve our residents, business community and employees, and as such, all other operations such as snow removal, garbage pick-up and fire service will continue as usual for the time being,” the release states.

Town officials will also be issuing a press release every Thursday at 9 a.m. on the town’s website.
