Faster Internet speeds are now available in La Ronge and Air Ronge by both major providers.

In a press release issued by Access Communications, the company announced it is boosting Internet speeds across the province with a service of 50 megabits per second already available in both northern communities. In the coming weeks, Access expects to deliver speeds up to 300 mbps.

“We knew we wanted to start in La Ronge because we heard the community loud and clear, and in these uncertain times, the importance of reliable highspeed connectivity has never been greater,” said Chief Executive Officer Jim Deane. “We believe in Saskatchewan. This investment in our advanced broadband network will enhance work from home, distance learning and virtual health solutions, in addition to keeping the communities we serve entertained with leading-edge streaming and gaming services.”

The first phase of expanded service is expected to occur this fall as the 300 mbps will be available in several new communities. The company hopes it ensures more reliable service delivery and prepares homes for the upcoming next-generation video products.

A spokesperson for SaskTel also confirmed the Crown corporation have Internet speeds up to 50 mbps in La Ronge and Air Ronge. InterNET Extended 50 includes download speeds of 50 mbps, uploads sppeds of 10 mbps, unlimited usage, 24-hour support and in-home wi-fi. The service is only available in selected northern communities.

Internet speeds were last increased back in March 2018 from five megabits per second to 10.
