LLRIB lockdowns end Tuesday, Pre-Cam set to reopen

Oct 19, 2020 | 5:00 PM

Lockdowns in Stanley Mission and Sucker River will be lifted effective Oct. 20.

That’s according to public notices released by band leadership in each of those communities. It is believed contact tracing has been completed by medical staff to allow for those communities to open.

“This means community members will be allowed to leave for groceries, medicals, and other essential services,” Coun. Devin Bernatchez wrote in an update to Sucker River residents. “Keep in mind it is always safer to stay home.”

Non-residents who wish to enter Sucker River need clearance and should call 1-306-425-4113 for permission. No outside residents will be permitted to enter Stanley Mission at this time, but essential service employees will be allowed in and out of both communities.

Leadership is also reminding residents to wear masks, sanitize and social distance when going into public places at all times. The letter to Stanley Mission residents notes if a new positive case develops in the community, the lockdown will be put in place again.

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band currently has cases in Stanley Mission (eight), Little Red River (seven), Sucker River (four) and two in the La Ronge area. In total, there are seven cases in La Ronge with six tied to the Pre-Cam Community School outbreak. According to Northern Lights School Division, three are teachers and three are students.

“Under the advice and direction of the medical health officer, Pre-Cam Community School will reopen on Tuesday, Oct. 20,” a letter to parents from the division states. “Two classrooms will remain closed for 14 days, returning to school on Oct. 27. Students from these classrooms have been contacted and will be staying home learning remotely.”

Those two classes are Grade 1 English and Grade 3 French. The letter notes anyone who may have been a close contact have been contacted by health authorities.
