Ice Wolves lose penalty-filled home opener
La Ronge Ice Wolves Head Coach Kevin Kaminski doesn’t have very good thoughts about the team’s home opener where there were 25 penalties including two 10-minute misconducts.
Players on the Ice Wolves racked up 15 of those penalties for a total of 46 minutes. Spencer Kennedy was responsible for 20 of those penalty minutes including a 10-minute misconduct, blow to the head, two for unsportsmanlike conduct, hooking and diving. Holden Knights was responsible for the second 10-minute misconduct, as well as a blow to the head.
“We’ve got to get disciplined. Penalties cost us the game,” Kaminski said. “There were five powerplay goals. I know it’s only four, but they got a powerplay goal one second after we got out. Five powerplay goals aren’t healthy for any team.”
The Nipawin Hawks quickly took the lead on the Nov. 6 game securing four goals in the first period. The Hawks made two more goals in the second and another in the third to win the match 7-3.
