Number of active COVID-19 cases decrease, four new deaths reported

The province is reporting 10,354 cases currently considered active today, a drop of 1,016 cases from yesterday’s total.

Four new deaths were reported today, bringing the total to 997 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

There were also 611 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported, which includes 103 located in northern zones of the province; Far North West (eight), Far North East (eight), North West (38), North Central (38), and North East (11).

Of the 611 new cases reported today, 107 were unvaccinated or fewer than 21 days after their first dose, 14 had received their first dose or were less than 21 days from their second dose, 237 were fully vaccinated (more than 14 days since their second dose) and 253 were fully vaccinated and more than 14 days from receiving their booster dose.

Just over one-third (34.9 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

As of Feb. 2, a total of 372 people are in hospital, an increase of two cases from hospitalizations reported yesterday.

This includes 332 inpatient in hospital; of those 133 inpatient are a COVID-19-related illness, 173 are incidental COVID-19 infections, and 26 have not yet been determined, and 40 ICU hospitalizations; of those, 30 are for COVID-19-related illnesses, and nine are for incidental COVID-19 infections. One resident is in PICU/NICU for COVID-19-related illnesses. Of the 372 patients, 123 (33.1 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported 10 new cases in NITHA communities on Feb. 1.

There are 94 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 15; Far North West, 13; Far North East, 23; North Central, 28; and North East, 15. There have been 7,661 cases (98 per cent) that have recovered, and there are two hospitalizations.
