Trial set for teen accused of murdering Air Ronge resident

Trial dates have been set in the first-degree murder of 46-year-old Jennifer Hendry of Air Ronge.

The trial for the accused, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is expected to begin May 1 at the La Ronge Provincial Court. The courtroom has been booked for the entire week.

Hendry was murdered during an invasion of her home on Waco Drive on Jan. 8, 2022. In the days following, RCMP reached out to the public with a photo and video of her suspected killer.

Less than a week later, RCMP announced the arrest of a male teen and charged him with first-degree murder. He is also facing one charge of robbery.

Hendry was well-known in the communities of Air Ronge and La Ronge, where she lived and worked for almost 20 years. She worked first as an instructor at Northlands College, and more recently with the La Ronge RCMP and Saskatchewan Health Authority.
