New La Ronge council sworn into office

The inaugural meeting of the new La Ronge town council included the administration of the oath of office, the appointment of the deputy-mayor, various committee appointments and the finalization of signing authority.

All members of council were elected to their positions via acclamation including Mayor Joe Hordyski, as well as fellow councillors Viviana Ruiz-Arcand, Abby Besharah, Karli Carr, Terry Hunt, Melissa McNeil and Robert Pacey Sr.

A motion was passed at the meeting to appoint Besharah as deputy mayor for the period of Oct. 9 through Oct. 8, 2026. Ruiz-Arcand will then assume that position for the remainder of their four-year term.

The municipality has representation on a number of town committees or boards, external committees, and member corporations. The following members of council were appointed as follows: Hordyski and McNeil (Lac La Ronge Regional Waste Management Corporation), Hordyski and Pacey (La Ronge Regional Fire Services), Hunt and Pacey (Lac La Ronge Regional Water Corporation), Ruiz-Arcand and Besharah (Woodlands and Waterways), Carr and McNeil (Animal Control), McNeil (Alex Robertson Public Library), Carr (Visions North), Besharah (Northern Planning Commission), Besharah (Environmental Quality Control), Lac La Ronge Provincial Park (Hunt), and Pacey (La Ronge Airport).
