UPDATE: Charges stayed against teens accused in armed robbery

UPDATE: According to the RCMP, the charges against Charles and the 16-year-old youth were stayed after new information came to light during their investigation into the robbery.

The investigation remains ongoing, RCMP said.

UPDATE: RCMP have made a second arrest in connection with the June 9 armed robbery. According to RCMP, a 16-year-old youth was arrested this morning on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. The youth, who cannot be named under law, is facing numerous charges including robbery with a restricted firearm. He will appear in court tomorrow.

RCMP in La Ronge arrested an 18-year-old in connection with an armed robbery at a local business June 9.

According to RCMP, two male suspects entered the business with their faces masked and brandished a firearm while stealing cash and alcohol. The suspects fled on foot after the robbery, police said, and no injuries were reported.

After an investigation, the RCMP arrested 18-year-old Zachary Charles at a residence on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band the morning of June 12.

According to RCMP, the young man is now facing charges including robbery with a restricted firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence, and two counts of forcible confinement.

RCMP said Charles will make his first appearance Thursday in La Ronge Provincial Court. He is presumed innocent at this stage.

The robbery is still part of an active investigation, RCMP said, and anyone with information on the incident was asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
