Alleged bootleggers busted near Pelican Narrows

Nov 22, 2018 | 3:01 PM

Two adult women have been charged under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act for alleged bootlegging.

According to an RCMP media release, officers with the Combined Traffic Services Section who were completing patrols near Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows stopped a vehicle Nov. 20 for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, members became aware the two adult females in the vehicle were known to purchase alcohol, transport it to Pelican Narrows and resell it at an inflated price. Police stated further investigation revealed eight 66-ounce bottles of whiskey and one 66-ounce bottle of vodka in the vehicle.

The alcohol was seized by officers and the two women will appear in court in Pelican Narrows in a month’s time. Police believe if the alcohol was re-sold in Pelican Narrows, the profit would have been approximately $900 or at least twice the original value of the purchase price.
