Peanut Productions to debut new play next week

Peanut Productions is just about ready to raise the curtains on their latest play.

This marks the 33rd year for the local drama group, which presents a new play to the public every spring. This year’s showing is the comedy Dearly Departed by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones. It is rated PG-13.

“It’s about a family where the father of the family has suddenly passed away and now the family has to work at preparing for the funeral,” explained Jan Senik.

“They don’t have any money, but they want the best for him and there are other family members who come out of the woodwork in order to be part of the funeral. There’s the different family dynamics during the preparation and after he has passed away. It is very much a comedy. It is very funny.”

The group began working on the play in September and took a short break during Christmas. They met once per week up until March and in recent weeks they have been getting together more frequently.

“We build our own set ourselves, we do our own hair, we do our own makeup, we find our own costumes, so it is quite a bit of work,” Senik said.

There are four new members of Peanut Productions for 2026 including Raeanne Fisher, Megan Heyhurst, Gavin Willins and Bill Plunz. All proceeds from the play, which will occur at the Elks Hall in Air Ronge, will go towards the new long-term care facility.

Showtimes will be April 22 to 25. Rush seating will be held in April 22, while Pub Nights will happen for the final three days. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Peanut Productions at peanutslaronge@gmail.com
