Ice Wolves duo to play university hockey this year

May 14, 2026 | 3:29 PM

A pair of graduating players for the La Ronge Ice Wolves will be continuing their hockey careers this coming season.

Goaltender Graham Brown and forward David Vitt have committed to post-secondary programs for the 2026/27 campaign.

Brown, a 21-year-old native of Victoria, B.C., is joining the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings.

The 2005-born netminder played two years in La Ronge, suiting up for 76 games, registering two shutouts with a 23-44-4 record. He had seasons of a .911 and .892 save-percentage and a 3.40 and 4.49 goals-against-average.

“I was super happy with the last two years. The coaching staff gave me a lot of opportunities to showcase my talent, and they gave me a shot, which is kind of all you can ask for going into junior hockey, especially being a smaller goalie. I’m just super grateful to the organization because they allowed me to get to where I am,” Brown told northeastNOW.

“I know and have played with a couple of the guys who go to Augustana, and they’ve had nothing but good things to say. They’ve really already been recruiting me since before this last season started, so I’m just really excited and can’t wait to see how the next four years go.”

Brown is already slightly familiar with the area and facilities of the campus, as well, as he played there with Team SJHL at the Viking Cup.

He added that it was a good first taste of university-quality hockey and is therefore slightly more prepared than most for the jump.

In Vitt’s case, meanwhile, the 21-year-old Kirkwood, Missouri, product is headed to Mayville University to play for the Saints.

The 2005-born forward also suited up for two seasons with the Ice Wolves, producing seven goals and 11 assists, good for 18 points, over 71 contests.

“I’m really excited for my next chapter. I loved playing in La Ronge for the Ice Wolves; it was a great experience, I enjoyed every second of it, and I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity. I have a lot of great memories from playing junior hockey and living in Saskatchewan, and I really just met a lot of good people in Canada,” Vitt explained.

“I think Junior A has really prepared me to play college, and I’m excited to be part of a program in Maryville that’s on the up-and-up, and is always competing for National Championships. Getting much closer to home is really nice, too. I think I’m going to adjust well and am just going to work as hard as I can to become the best possible version of myself.”

Vitt had previously committed to the McKendree University Wildcats back in December.
