Apartment building, flagpole requests to be discussed by town council

May 25, 2026 | 4:20 PM

La Ronge town council is expected to make a decision on whether or not to approve plans for a new three-storey, 36-unit apartment building at the corner of Studer and Boardman Streets at a regular meeting on Monday.

At their meeting on Feb. 9, council approved the sale of the .92 acre lot to Kelly Fiske with the provision they would have to approve the final plans for development. Those plans have now been submitted.

Administration collaborated with the purchaser in preparation of the plans. Details released by administration show the easterly full length of the building will face Studer Street, an off-street parking lot has been located on the west side so there is less parking lot visible from the adjacent streets, and concrete sidewalks are ample and provide two accesses each to Boardman Street and Studer Street, with well-planned internal pedestrian traffic flow.

In addition, waste storage will be in an enclosed structure located at the far north end of the parking lot, and the colour palette for the exterior of the building includes a range of colours that administration deemed appealing.

Administration recommends council has two options in which to proceed with the plans. They can either approve the plans outright or adopt a resolution approving the plans outlining required changes.

Fiske has also recently purchased three other lots along Studer Street.

Also at Monday’s meeting, council will listen to a presentation from the Community Alcohol Management Plan committee, and discuss two community flagpole requests.

The flagpole requests come from the La Ronge and District Filipino – Canadian Community to fly the national flag of the Philippines, as well as Dr. Yoseph Atreyu to fly the Pride flag. Administration is recommending council fly the Philippines flag from June 7-20, and the Pride flag the remaining days of that month.
