Northlands College celebrates 2025, 2026 graduates

Jun 5, 2026 | 2:30 PM

It was a big day for 243 graduates of Northlands College, who received either a degree, diploma or certificate.

The ceremony, held at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre, was rather large because it was a celebration for graduates from 2025 and 2026. Due to the Pisew wildfire and subsequent evacuation of the tri-communities last June, there was no ceremony to recognize last year’s graduates.

In his speech, President and CEO Michael McCormick told graduates they should be proud of who they are, have confidence in their abilities, and remember what they learned is not just for personal success, but are tools to uplift their families, communities and future generations.

“Today is not just about receiving a certificate of diploma. It is about recognizing the journey that brought you here,” he remarked.

“Each of you faced challenges along the way. Whether it was balancing family responsibilities, overcoming distance and access barriers, returning to school after time away, or navigating the demands of your program. You showed resilience, you showed determination, and most importantly, you believed in yourself.”

Northlands College has a presence across Northern Saskatchewan, so the vast majority of graduates came from communities in the region. There were, however, some graduates honoured from southern communities such as Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon, along with two from Manitoba.

The largest contingent at the ceremony were Adult Basic Education graduates, but there was also a large number representing the trades, applied corticate programs, and university courses in education, nursing, social work, administration and dental therapy.

“Your journey does not end here, it evolves,” McCormick noted.

“There will be new challenges ahead, but if your time at Northlands College has shown us anything, it is that you are capable of overcoming them. As you go forward, remember where you come from, honour the people who support you, and never stop learning. Remember, our doors are always open.”
