Five people face charges after a reported firearm incident in La Loche led to a police pursuit and a collision that injured an RCMP officer.

La Loche RCMP said officers received a report around 5:40 p.m. on Nov. 1 that someone had pointed a firearm at another person outside a home. Police said the gun was not discharged and the person targeted reported no physical injuries.

Investigators determined the suspects had left in a vehicle. Officers located it in La Loche and tried to make a traffic stop, but police said the vehicle continued onto Highway 155 and out of the community.

The vehicle turned onto a trail and stopped suddenly, causing the police vehicle following it to collide with it.

One officer required medical treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police said the five occupants of the other vehicle did not report injuries.

Officers arrested all five and seized a firearm, a magazine and ammunition from the vehicle.

All five accused, who are from Buffalo Narrows, Turnor Lake and La Loche, are charged with possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized and flight from a peace officer.

A 50-year-old Buffalo Narrows man also faces charges of pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, resisting a peace officer, uttering threats, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with probation orders.

He and a 38-year-old La Loche man also face charges of weapons possession contrary to an order. The La Loche man is additionally charged with failing to comply with a release order.

The five appeared in court on Nov. 5. The 50-year-old and the 38-year-old were remanded in custody until their next scheduled appearance in La Loche on Nov. 23.
