Teen arrested after Sandy Bay house fire

Apr 24, 2026 | 1:58 PM

A teenage boy has been charged with arson after a house fire at Sandy Bay, about 450 km northeast of Melfort.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 7.

In the early morning hours of April 5, RCMP received a report of the fire and the unoccupied house was heavily damaged.

The woman living there with her two granddaughters were away in Prince Albert for a family function. She had just purchased some new furniture.

RCMP continue to investigate this incident and other structure fires in Sandy Bay since October of last year.

It’s believed the fires at four houses and an outbuilding were deliberately set.

“The investigations include determining whether there is any potential link between the incidents,” the RCMP news release stated. “Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Section is supporting Sandy Bay RCMP with these investigations.”

Residents had previously expressed their concerns about the fires and the lack of a fire truck in the community.

Anyone with information on any of these fires is asked to call RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
