A house fire at Police Point on Monday has been deemed not suspicious by the La Ronge Regional Fire Department.

That’s according to an email to larongeNOW from fire chief Keaton Cloud, who stated firefighters were dispatched after a call was received at 2:37 p.m. When fire personnel arrived on the scene, there was heavy black smoke and fire showing from the residence.

Firefighters were on the scene for eight hours and the house has been declared a total loss.

“The entire roof structure collapsed shortly after firefighters arrived on scene,” the email stated.

“At that point, it was deemed unsafe for firefighters to make entry into the structure to attack the fire and we transitioned to a defensive attack. Our priority shifted to protecting the house next to the fire and fighting the fire from the outside.”

Cloud noted a preliminary investigation revealed the fire started from the outside and made its way into the soffits and quickly compromised the roof structure.

larongeNOW reached out to the homeowners and Lisa Larson issued the following statement.

“Friends and the rest of the community have been amazing and we are feeling very blessed despite everything. The RCMP, EMS, volunteer fire department and everyone else who helped were nothing short of amazing with their professionalism and compassion.”
