Organizers of the 2023 La Ronge Elk’s Fair expect more than 15,000 people will pass through the gates during the next three days.

The Elk’s Fair began at noon on Friday with between 18 to 20 rides by Canucks Amusements, as well as numerous food and merchandise booths, games of chance and more. A co-ed slow pitch tournament will also take place this weekend, as well as a talent show, bingo and a performance by country singer Darryl Anderson will be held Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“This is our big weekend. Lots of our members are out this weekend,” said Elks Club Exulted Ruler Shea Duncan.

“This definitely keeps our club going for the year and it provides a lot of opportunities to support initiatives in the community. We really appreciate the tri-community for coming out and making this bigger and better and more special.”

The Elk’s Fair is a major event and draws in people from surrounding communities such as Grandmother’s Bay, Hall Lake, Stanley Mission and Sucker River. In all, 5,000 people are expected to attend the fair each day.

Duncan noted the Elk’s Fair wouldn’t be possible without the help of many volunteers, for which the club is thankful.

“We have 25 active members who have been really going all week to get it ready and get it going, and along with a lot of the community,” he said. “I called out to get helpers to do the gate. Overall, for shift purposes, we have at least 70 people.”
