Council approves apartment plans subject to changes

May 26, 2026 | 4:54 PM

Town council has approved plans for a new three-storey, 36-unit apartment building at the corner of Studer and Boardman subject to a number of requirements.

Those requirements include that the building be sided with LP SmartSide siding material instead of vinyl siding, and the lower portion of the building be treated with a stone veneer type of material as it would improve the aesthetic quality of the building, and reflect the northern environment in which La Ronge is located.

In addition, a $25,000 landscape security deposit must be submitted to the town to guarantee the landscaping is undertaken as per the approved landscaping plan, and to ensure the trees and shrubs survive for one year after the landscaping is completed, and that any vegetation that does not survive is replaced accordingly.

Council previously approved the sale of the .92 acre lot to well-known local developer Kelly Fiske. He also recently purchased three other lots along Studer Street.

Coun. Viviana Ruiz Arcand cited concerns about the need for playground equipment at the new apartment complex, but administration told her the current Robertson Drive Park under development is meant to provide green space to residents in that area.

More details on that project, including a rendering of the apartment, can be found online here.

Council also approved two flagpole requests for the month of June at Monday’s meeting. The national flag of the Philippines will fly June 7-20, while the Pride flag will fly for the remainder of the days of that month.
